Dear Concerned Parents, Teachers & Care Givers:
Children are our most precious gift. They represent a bright future and hold our hopes for a better world. In today’s technologically advanced society, connected by the Internet, our children can also be the most vulnerable.
Advances in computer technology and networking now provide our children with instant access to educational materials, vast sources of information and knowledge, real-time inter-personal communication and unlimited varieties of entertainment.
Unfortunately, technological improvements
expose our children to dangerous internet risks.
"I can't believe how dangerous the internet is for my daughters..."
I can't believe how dangerous the internet is for my daughters, even when they are just researching their school work. I have read much of the free information available online, but it was not until I read your book, "Children & Internet Safety", that I was able to fully understand the risks facing my girls. By using your recommendations, I now feel confident that I have taken the right steps to protect my family from internet threats. Thank you so much!

He was only 11 at the time and I was shocked by what I saw! Once I found "Children & Internet Safety", I sent a copy to my son & daughter-in-law. We are following your methods and working together to better monitor and protect the children. I am even using much of the same information to protect myself. Thanks!

Please Note: There is a wide variety of FREE information about internet safety available online. Although the Free information is a fantastic place to start, to be really informed you will need to understand a great deal more!! No worries though... I've done the research for you!!
Let's review some alarming internet safety statistics:
(According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children)
 |
Almost 4,500,000 of our children post content online everyday |
 |
Over 15,000,000 youth frequently use Instant Messaging |
 |
Almost 20% of children online (10 to 17 years old) were approached with a sexual solicitation by a stranger |
 |
More than 1 out of every 3 online children had an unwanted exposure to sexual material -- pictures of naked people or people having sex |
 |
When an encounter was defined as a distressing, one that made them feel extremely upset or afraid, only 42% of children actually told a parent or guardian |
 |
9% of online kids are intentionally harassed or threatened over the Internet |
 |
4 of every 5 on-line solicitations occur while the child is in the safety of their own home |
 |
95% of parents didn't understand the language kids use to tell others that their parents are watching |
 |
This One Is Really Scary!!! 4% received an aggressive sexual solicitation - a solicitor who asked to meet them somewhere; called them on the telephone; or sent them offline mail, money, or gifts |
 |
75% of children do not tell anyone about the solicitations or encounters with unwanted sexual material |
 |
9 out of every 10 sexual solicitations occur in either chat rooms or by Instant Messaging |
 |
Over 75% of parents have no rules about how their children use the computer |
 |
4 out of 5 parents say that their kids will carelessly give out personal information online |
 |
65% of parents believe that children are doing things online that they don’t want parents to know about |
It’s our responsibility as parents and teachers to keep our children safe, to raise our children’s awareness of the ever present dangers on the Internet and to give them the skills and knowledge required to recognize potential on-line problems before they occur, enabling them to better protect themselves.
"I never would have worried but..."
I really don't know much about technology but my kids use the internet to do their homework on our family computer. I never would have worried but my son's grades were dropping off and we couldn't figure out why. Finally, we discovered that internet distractions during homework time were the cause; he was spending a great deal of time doing instant messaging online. He had even opened his own account without my knowledge (his friends told him how).
My husband found your guide, "Children & Internet Safety"; we have used your recommendations to set reasonable guidelines for computer use, in addition to learning how to better monitor our son's activities. My son's grades have gone back up, thanks in part to the information in your book.

Read On... To Better Understand Why It Is Critical For
Parents, Grand Parents, Teachers & Care Givers
To Recognize The Dangers Of The Internet
And To Learn How To Protect Our Children,
While Teaching Them To Protect Themselves!!
"Keep Your Child Safe On The Internet!"
I need to be painfully honest with you and this is extremely important. In today’s world, no uninformed child is safe from the terrible dangers present on the internet.
As a concerned parent, if your child uses the internet, you need to learn all you can to protect your child and your family from internet threats & vulnerabilities.
Your child needs to be comfortable talking to someone they trust at home or school and who understands their questions.
There are important strategies you must learn for
establishing the critical open dialog between you and your kids.
You need to learn how to communicate the dangers to your child, in a way that is easy to understand. You must decide to stay continuously involved.
"Stop Internet Predators From Abusing Your Child!"
It’s almost impossible to pick up a newspaper today and not read a story about some sexual deviant who has been arrested for contacting children on the internet. Do you know how to prevent these types of people from preying on your unsuspecting child?
There have been many reported cases where older men have been successful in creating relationships with young children (a process known as ‘grooming’), before trying to meet them. If you are not working hard to stop these intrusions, your child can become their next victim.
You really need to act before it’s too late!
"Prevent Your Child From Being Abducted Or Worse"
You can’t see the person you are in contact with on-line; they may not be who they say they are. Understanding that pedophiles or sex abusers look for victims by communicating in chat rooms and through email, is an important first step.
When given unprotected access these deviants will pose as children or teenagers, try to strike up a friendship and eventually try to persuade your child to meet up.
As a parent, you must work to stop potential predators!
"Defend Your Family Against Harmful Outsiders"
The two main areas of risk are unsuitable contact and salacious content. You can’t see the person you contact online so you have no idea who they are.
…And even though the vast majority of material on the Internet is legal, it is still very easy to stumble across information or images that may be unsuitable for your children.
You need to learn how to help your children
avoid objectionable content and solicitation from strangers!
"Guard Your Family From Internet Scams"
The internet tends to provide parents and children with a false sense of security. Families today have on-line access from homes, offices, coffee shops, almost anywhere including from their mobile phones.
Isn’t it exciting to be involved in activities like shopping or playing games from the comfort, safety and security of your home? Your child thinks it is!
Children (and even adults) can unwittingly give away personal details
like where they live, go to school or work.
People even begin to trust businesses they aren’t familiar with or someone they don’t know. There are many instances of people willingly giving out their personal information and contact details. Do you know how to protect your family?
"Secure Your Family’s Financial Status & Information"
It’s possible to bump into many types of bad people on the internet. Personal information innocently shared on the internet can enable criminals’ virtually instant access to your private information and financial records.
In the wrong hands seemingly harmless information can lead directly to identity theft and can cost you many thousands of dollars!
The criminals are getting smarter and you need to as well!
Do you know how easy it is for the con-artists to gather the information they need about your family? No matter how careful “you” may be, your kids can inadvertently provide enough information to a new friend on-line, in what may seem to be an innocent conversation.
It is very important to educate your children about the right and wrong things to share on the internet.
"Prevent Inadvertent Exposure To Inappropriate Images Or Content"
…but my child is only using the internet to do her homework...
and the school encourages her to use certain web sites…
Isn’t my child safe in this case?
I even see her reading different articles and using them for her schoolwork.
Although a great deal of information on the Internet is legal, decent and honest, don’t be lulled into a false sense of security. It is very easy for your child to find or even to stumble across, content or images that may be unsuitable for children.
Many easy to access sites include pornography, or other inappropriate material that is violent, racist, inaccurate or damaging in some other way.
You need to work actively to be sure your child is not exposed
to harmful content or images….
You certainly do not want to leave it to chance!
"Prevent Identity Theft"
Obviously if we didn’t use on-line systems, internet based identity theft would not be possible. In today’s world, it is almost impossible to get by without access to the internet or other on-line communications methods (like cell phones).
In fact, if you didn’t have access to the internet, you probably wouldn’t be concerned about this issue and you certainly couldn’t be reading this on-line!
Access to the internet will put you & your kids at risk!
You need to learn how to make sure both you and your children NEVER reveal any personal details! By giving out personal information your kids are enabling someone to steal your identity or even to contact them in the real world. Personal information such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and mobile phone numbers will give a predator everything they need to hurt your family.
Do you know how to safely use the internet?
"Block Solicitation By Sexual Predators"
When unknown people come into contact with your children, there is never a guarantee of this stranger’s ultimate intentions. These strangers will attempt to establish a friendship by building on a shared interest.
These people are evil!
They are very tricky about noticing your child’s likes and dislikes, perhaps a hobby, maybe a sport or even being sympathetic about something your child is worried about. They will use their lie about a common interest to meet and befriend your child.
It may all seem quite innocent, but danger lurks. As a parent, the consequences of inaction can be extremely serious.
Can you protect your child on the internet?
I just recently heard a story about a 30 year old man who was arrested for having sex with a 13 year old girl he met in one of the many internet chat rooms. The predator had worked for months to build a ‘friendship’ with the girl.
Parents must work tirelessly to stop this from happening!
"Stop Your Child From Being Bullied Or Harassed"
With the variety of communication methods that children are using today on the web, they have virtually instant access to everyone they know. In addition to friends and family, your kids are also reachable by most of their acquaintances, including people they might prefer not to hear from.
I’m not talking here about the strangers we want to insulate them from; another problem may be school bullies, playground punks or other people that have an ax to grind or may be upset with your child.
Harassment has moved beyond the name calling or physical threats of our day.
The old adage, “Sticks and stones may break their bones but names will never hurt them”, is still true. …but today’s bullies are much more diabolical and the internet is their vehicle of choice for striking out at or embarrassing your child.
Kids who want to "get back at" or "emotionally attack" your child today can post inaccurate, disturbing information or embarrassing pictures on the internet.
You need to work with your kids to help them understand
how to best deal with and prevent this from occurring!
These psychological internet attacks on your child can now be seen by or delivered to hundreds of the people in your child’s life, rather than being simply overheard by a few people, as it was in our day.
The internet is a different world for our children than the one we grew up in.
"Prevent Viruses, Spy-Ware & Spam From Infecting Your Computer"
With all the exciting activities like communicating, gaming and shopping on-line, children find the internet irresistible. Most internet sites today require your child to register and in this way (among others), your child will be enticed to give out their email addresses, or yours!
Many of these sites will sell or even give out your child’s email to other companies or individuals. Obviously, this will increase your child’s risk of receiving unwanted emails or solicitations, called ‘Spam’.
Are you aware that your child’s internet activities can harm your computer?
Aside from being annoying, do you realize that many of these emails will contain unsuitable material, spy-ware or even viruses that can damage your computer?
Do your kids know how to prevent this from happening?
Can you recognize the symptoms of unsuitable material? Aside from causing computer malfunctions or destruction of the information and pictures on your computer, do you know the additional dangers of spy-ware and viruses, as it relates to further exposing your child?
"Stop On-Line Dialogs Between Your Child And Perverts"
Your child or teenager can very easily meet people on-line. Even if your child is not looking to encounter a stranger, random meetings occur all the time. Having conversations on-line and meeting new people (strangers) is one of the exciting aspects of the internet that your kids love.
Your children will inevitably make new internet ‘friendships’.
Today, popular communication methods your kids are probably already using include: Email, Chat Rooms, Instant Messing, On-Line Gaming, News Groups, Bulleting Boards, Blogs and Social Networking sites.
All of these allow your child to have live or near real-time conversations. Hundreds of thousands of these sites exist on the internet and there are constantly more sites being added.
Is your child one of the few educated and protected new users of the internet?
Every new contact is potentially a dangerous predator! There is no guarantee that strangers are who they say they are. Do you know the risks these types of sites present to your child?
Wouldn’t you give anything to better understand how to teach your kids to recognize the bad guys on-line?
Wouldn’t you like to be able to block the creeps?
"Your book was simple to understand & gave me real steps to help teach my kids how to protect themselves on the internet."
I read everything I could find about Internet Safety and how to best protect my children while they are using the internet. There are far too many brief lists of what I should do that didn't really tell me how or why. Your book brough it all together for me. "Children & Internet Safety" was simple to understand and gave me real steps to help me teach my kids how to protect themselves on the internet. I know my kids are safer today. WOW!
P.S. - I recommended your book to our local school system.

"Prevent Your Child From Being Stalked On-Line"
Predators or other criminals who are lurking on the internet to exploit your child are very tricky. Conversations that may start harmlessly in a chat room can quickly progress.
The contact will even bounce around between communication methods (i.e. Email, Social Networking, Instant Messaging, etc.), just like your child would expect from a friend, adding to the illusion of innocence.
On-line monsters actually follow a process called “grooming”
to establish and maintain a relationship with your unsuspecting child.
Have you heard about “whispering” on the internet? You should know that this can be very dangerous. Whispering is a term that refers to a one-to-one conversation with someone in a private room.
Imagine the Chat Room as a party with lots of people. Now picture a private Chat Room as a secluded spot where an unknown, strange person, that your child may consider a friend, can be alone with your child.
Would you like to know if your child has been “whispering”?
When your child is stalked, the stranger will establish an open public on-line relationship, developing into a friendship that leads your child to be comfortable in a private Chat Room.
This is exactly what a pedophile or other predator wants.
"Keep Your Child Safe From Dangerous Internet Predators"
 |
Can you recognize the signs of a Stalker? |
 |
Do you know how to monitor the potential threats to your child? |
 |
Will you be able to discourage your child from being comfortable with strangers? |
 |
Are you able to protect your child? |
The key is being well informed and aware of the dangers!
"Stop Worrying At Night About Predators
Having Easy Real World Access to Your Child"
In the on-line world, Chat Rooms and other internet communications methods provide convenient access from Adults or others who a determined to exploit your children. However they are still not able to reach out and touch your child in the real world!
As previously discussed, it always begins with seemingly harmless conversation. Once a basic friendship is built with your child, they can many times be persuaded to meet these strangers in the real world.
It happens all the time!
Do you know the personal information that can put your family at risk?
Aside from the obvious contact information, even seemingly harmless facts, such as their favorite hang outs, school or extra-circular activities can provide enough to expose your child to extreme danger.
Digital photos and mobile phone pictures or videos can be especially useful in helping the bad guys identify the location of your child.
You should learn how to combat these threats?
"Avoid Unauthorized Computer Access and Personal Legal Liability Caused By Your Children"
Your child is not all that is at risk on the internet. Significant dangers exist from computer viruses and other types of malicious programs which can cripple or even destroy your home or business computers.
You should become aware of the causes of these threats and understand the things that your child does that will increase the chances your computer will be infected.
…and that’s only one of the computer hardware and software vulnerabilities that can be exposed by your child’s activities – For example when they use on-line hosting servers to play games, it is even possible for a stranger to “hack” into your computer.
The term “hack” refers to a strange person, a criminal, who gains unauthorized access to your computer from their computer. This can be very serious!
Not only can this cause significant damage to your computer and data. You may actually loose everything on your hard disk drive.
Some viruses will actually give complete control of your system to an outsider, location unknown, who will use your computer for annoying others -- like sending Spam, or potentially illegal activities -- like forwarding viruses or child pornography.
You and your child should work together to eliminate the possibility of this happening to you and your family.

Special Bonus #4
"Internet Safety Rules For Kids"
(A $19.95 value, YOURS FREE!)
You’re kids will definitely feel that, as they grow up and mature, they don’t have to be as concerned about internet threats as when they were younger. The truth is teenagers and young adults need to be even more careful not to let their guard down. This set of guidelines can be posted right at your computer, as a constant reminder.
Over 15% of kids online (13 to 18 years old) have been sexually solicited by a stranger on the internet!
If you’re a parent or even a young adult yourself, you might feel that you don’t need the same restrictions and controls that younger kids do. You may feel that you know all the rules. Remember, just because you’re growing older doesn’t mean that you’re out of danger.
As kids grow older, they are actually more likely to get into trouble online than younger children.
Kids can be rather daring; they are very likely to explore the remote areas of cyberspace and they are more likely to reach outside their peer groups while online. These simple rules can be printed and displayed at each computer to remind each user of the dangers that exist out there.
Kids who don’t know how to protect themselves
are more easily preyed upon by perverts, predators, child molesters and other criminals.
This set of rules or guidelines is designed for your kids, to help them better understand and remember the dangers of the internet and how to avoid them, these rules will help your kids take advantage of all the positive aspects of the Internet while avoiding most of its pitfalls.
Print These Rules & Post At Each Computer.
The, “Internet Safety Rules For Kids”, has been designed to speak directly to your internet aged children; to help understand and remember the guidelines learn that they must take responsibility for and control of protecting themselves from internet predators and criminals.
This important, potentially lifesaving, Set of Rules will help teach your kids, through the repetition of constantly having the visual reminder of easy to understand safety rules, posted at their computers. These rules will help communicate your expectations about how to protect them against the internet dangers that plague the unsuspecting and unprepared. An example of what you and your kids will learn by adhering to these rules is how to avoid:
Being Devastated By Something That A User Of Your Computer Doesn’t Understand They Shouldn’t Do…
A very serious on-line risk faced by your kids is the possibility of someone intentionally hurting or exploiting them because of information that they post or that someone else posts about them online.
… or because of something your child does or somewhere they go as a result of someone or something they encounter online.
There are a growing number of kids who are molested, abducted, or leave home as a result of contacts they make on the Internet.
These incidents are still relatively low,
but when they happen the results are devastating.
This set of Rules for you to display, “Internet Safety Rules For Kids”, will serve as a constant reminder to help your child avoid becoming one of the ever growing internet related tragedies.
Print These Rules & Post At Each Computer. |
Special Bonus #5
"Family Contracts for Online Safety"
(A $15.75 value, YOURS FREE!)
There are a bunch of "rules" on how kids should be allowed to use the Internet and even more information about how responsible people should use the internet.
The most important consideration is that parents and kids (or teens) agree to a set of responsibilities.
This very special bonus contains two pledges that parents and kids can agree to. The pledges (or contracts) should be printed out, signed by both parents and kids and posted near any family computers. This should be considered a requirement for being able to use the family computer.
Before your kids begin exploring the Internet,
parents should make sure their family understands what they should and shouldn't be doing online and why.
Here's a great way for parents to facilitate open communications: Call a "family meeting" and have a conversation on Internet safety. After discussing the internet benefits, dangers, rules and responsibilities, sign these two family contracts one for parents and the other for kids.
Review the family contracts together; use them to lead an open discussion about family expectations, rules and guidelines on safe Web usage. Use them to help everyone start to “Think Internet Safety”.
Oh Yeah… Don't forget to agree with & sign the contracts!
Parents can even create a different contract for each child with Internet usage rules set appropriately by age, maturity and responsibility.
Each of your kids would sign their own contract to show that they understand and agree to the family internet usage rules and they agree to follow them when they go online…
…to ensure their safety
and the safety of the other members of your family,
remember to post the signed contracts
next to each of your family’s computers to remind everyone
of the important Internet safety rules. |
